One of the frustrating aspects of the current lockout negotiations (or at least the version that is laundered through the media, which after the reporting of Monday night/Tuesday morning February 28/March 1 one would be wise to be skeptical of) is the extent to which any kind of novel idea put forward by the MLBPA is immediately dismissed out of hand by MLB. Rob Manfred has spent the last several years pensively stroking his chin and saying “That’s interesting, we’ll consider it” to any suggestion made to change baseball, seemingly up to and including positioning clowns at random points in the outfield.
I vote that two teams are added, say San Antonio and Montreal Create four, 8 team leagues, grouped geographically as best can be done. 1-NY, NY, Bos, Mon, Was,Phil, Balt, Pitt 2- Mia, TB, Atl, San Antonio, Houston, Texas, KC, StL 3- Chi, Chi, Cleve, Cin, Det, Minn, Mil, Tor 4- Ariz, Col, SD,LA,SF,Oak, Seat, Angels.Each team plays 14 games within its league (15*7= 105) and then rotates with one other league each year, playing those 8 teams 6 times (6*8=48) for a total of 153 games. Then the playoffs are the top two teams play the other league that played during the reg season. So if Phil and Bos are 1&2 in league one, and they played League Two that year, then Phil plays the 2nd place team in League 2 and Bos plays the winner. Etc etc...
